LSI CacheCade 2.0 solves your hot data problems

Put short, LSI MegaRaid CacheCade 2.0 is a software tool that keeps your ‘hot’ data readily available on flash memory in a solid state drive.
Your storage hardware can consist of SSD, SAS or SATA disks. SSD’s (solid-state drives) perform better but are more expensive than SAS and SATA storage. Our servers use LSI CacheCade 2.0 to store idle data on the SATA or SAS disks and to only engage the SSD for active or ‘hot’ data.
This allows for your big data storage infrastructure to keep performance very high while requiring much less expensive SSD’s. That’s a win-win if ever we saw one.

The best alternative to SAN
Part of your IT infrastructure consists of a storage platform. You use it to save files and make backups, but it serves other purposes than that, as well. For example, a storage platform is a necessary component for running .
A storage platform is often configured with a SAN (Storage Attached Network) – an advanced and reliable, but also rather big investment. JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) components are a great way to cover that problem. A JBOD chassis is low-cost and easy to manage. It bundles the capacity of local storage and concentrates it into one central storage platform that is flexible, scalable and reliable (high-availability).
12 to 88 SATA/SAS disks
Ahead-IT offers JBOD chassis containing 12 to 88 SATA/SAS disks. You can use these as independent hard disks, as a RAID configuration, or in combination with ZFS. Server hardware with an external SAS port is required to use JBOD components.

What is hot-data SSD-caching?
Currently, 3 mainstream storage types are available.  SSD has the highest performance, as is for random I/O, random read/write, sequantial read/write ans general access time.  It’s total price per GB is much higher compared to SAS and SATA disks.  Therefor, the ideal situation would be to make all active data, used by a specififc application, automatically use the performance of the SSD disk.  LSI CacheCade 2.0 offers this smart solution.  All data will initially be stored on the cheaper SATA and SAS disks. Actively accesses data (read or write), will be marked as hot-data.  The hardware RAID controller migrates this hot-data instantly and fully automatic to the fast SSD disk or array.  Once the data is no longer used, they will be migrated again to the SATA or SAS disk.
The result is a high-performant storage server as it would be fully SSD equipped, at the affordable price of a SATA/SAS storage server.  Below, you can find an informational video.  For a full review, click here.
